They not only motivate and help keep you focused on your goals and how you want to feel, but the change in thought helps you change your behavior so that you feel the way you want to feel in life!
Like any habit, it takes time for affirmations to stick to the brain. So, to change your thoughts, and to ultimately change your behavior, affirmations should be practiced daily.
